We now know that our 2024 visit to France will be from Thursday 25th to Monday 29th July. Do get in touuch as soon as possible if you would like to join us.
When our French partners in Twinning visited us in July 2023 we marked 30 years of the link between Sampford Peverell with several nearby villages, and Notre Dame de Courson with several other villages in the Pays d’Auge, in Normandy. It has been a time of change for communities on both sides of the Channel and, indeed throughout the world. We have valued our friendship with our French friends, come to understand each other better and, above all, had fun!
We are fortunate in now having all ages involved, and one Friday evening in November we had a meeting for new, old, would-be, and used-to-be twinners, chiefly as a social occasion to meet and chat, but also to make plans for the future.
A visit to France will hopefully take place in late July 2024, and between now and then we want to meet together socially from time to time, attract new members and do some fund-raising. At the moment our existing financial situation is healthy, but entertaining our French visitors is expensive, so we are looking to find good ways of making money. Ideas welcome!
We appointed a Chairman, Secretary, Visits Secretary and Treasurer, the latter two being new officers. We welcome them to those positions and look forward to working with them. We did not appoint a formal committee, agreeing that the way forward would be for everyone involved, or who would like to be involved, to help when needed and to share their ideas. This is a slightly different way of working for the Twinning Association – let’s make it work.
We hope that our twinning has a future for the next 30 years - and beyond.
